Home to Victoria Falls itself, Zimbabwe is where most Southern African journeys begin — and where the adrenaline activities, river cruises and rainforest walks that define this region are at their best. It is also our home ground: everything we run here, we run ourselves.
Where you will go
- Victoria Falls — the main event, and a town built around it. Two to three days covers the falls, one adventure activity and a sunset cruise without rushing.
- Zambezi National Park — game drives fifteen minutes from town, with elephant, buffalo, sable and lion along the river.
- Hwange National Park — Zimbabwe’s largest park, roughly two hours away. Enormous elephant herds around the waterholes in the dry season.
- Batoka Gorge — the setting for rafting, bungee, the gorge swing and the zipline.
When to come
The falls are at their most dramatic from February to May, straight after the rains, though the spray can obscure the view. From July to October the water drops, the views open up, Devil’s Pool becomes accessible, and game viewing at Hwange is at its peak. Rafting runs best in low water, roughly August to December.
Practical notes
Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) is about twenty minutes from town with direct flights from Johannesburg, Nairobi and Addis Ababa. Most nationalities get a visa on arrival, and the KAZA UniVisa covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia if you plan to cross. US dollars are widely used.
